Abstract

Nutrition is one of the determining aspects of children's growth and development. Children who experience malnutrition will have bad consequences. Referring to the results of nutritional status measurements reported in the 2020 district/city health profile, it was found that the distribution of the number of malnutrition (BB/U) in toddlers in North Sumatra Province was 1,342 toddlers or 3.41% of all toddlers weighed and Mandailing Natal contributed the largest number with 214 toddlers followed by Medan City with 174 toddlers. This study aims to determine the relationship between exclusive breastfeeding and the incidence of stunting in toddlers in Medan Belawan District. The type of research used is descriptive analytical. The research design used is cross-sectional. The research instrument used is a questionnaire conducted by interview. The data analysis technique used the chi square test in univariate and bivariate analysis. The population in this study was 58 children. The technique used in sampling in this study used random sampling. From the results of the study it is known that there is a relationship between exclusive breastfeeding and the incidence of stunting in toddlers in Medan Belawan sub-district (p value = 0.003 < 0.05). This study concludes that the relationship between exclusive breastfeeding and the incidence of stunting in toddlers in Medan Belawan sub-district is the provision of exclusive breastfeeding.
