Abstract

From year to year the existence of cupping has never decreased despite the rapid development in the medical world. This qualitative research that we conducted aims to find out how the separate existence of cupping and its side effects caused in patients who have or often do cupping. Data collection was carried out by observation and in-depth interviews using interview guidelines conducted in April 2024 at PBR Clinic Medan City. The informants in the study were cupping patients, the head of the clinic and cupping therapists. Based on the results that we have found from the research, most of the reasons why patients are interested in cupping are due to religious needs, namely the belief that the many properties of cupping and feeling the benefits of cupping for the first time, not compatible with medical drugs and most of them are also interested because of the advice of family, relatives and friends who have been cupped, the cost of cupping is also quite affordable. For the side effects caused by the patients, the average answer is that it rarely occurs and does not even feel any side effects, only mild side effects such as itching and slight stinging. The hygiene of this clinic is good because it uses one needle for one person, the kop is cleaned regularly using chlorine and alcohol and the staff also asks about the patient's willingness and congenital diseases and always advises to confirm with the doctor before cupping.
